Our handmade wooden frames house not only our original photography of mourning doves and their young but also meticulously crafted nests resting on semi-precious stone sculptures. These nests, made from the same natural materials used by the doves themselves, undergo a rigorous sterilization and preservation process before being hand-painted and adorned. To preserve the essence of the natural materials, you may notice small bits of delicate nest debris on the floor or plexiglass (see photo) of the frame. This is a natural occurrence, reflecting the organic quality of the materials we work with and the story they carry. Our creations are crafted with care, not by machines, but by our own hands, ensuring each frame is as unique and genuine as the doves that inspire us.
Each frame involves over 125 precise manufacturing steps and is crafted entirely by William and Maria. We start by selecting high-quality wood, which is planed, cut, and assembled with precision. Protective Plexiglass is added, and the frames are adorned with our original bird photographs, semi-precious stones, and handcrafted nests made from naturally foraged plant materials.
Mourning doves are at the heart of Zephyr Faith Crafts. Their symbolism of love, peace, and serenity resonates deeply with us. The doves’ presence in our lives inspired us to capture their beauty through photography and to incorporate elements reminiscent of their natural habitat into our art.
Due to the intricate crafting process involving over 125 steps, each frame takes several days to complete. This time allows for the careful creation and drying of the custom nests, precise assembly, and comprehensive quality checks to ensure you receive a piece that embodies our dedication and artistry.
Our nests are made from the same natural materials used by mourning doves, which we forage in their natural habitat. The plant materials are trimmed, groomed, dehydrated, and then shaped into nests using molds. Each nest is sanitized and adorned with base colors and glitter paints, then sealed with a clear finish for durability. The nests symbolize our commitment to replicating the natural world in every detail.
Our journey began with a profound appreciation for mourning doves that frequented our desert home. The peaceful presence of these birds and the moments of serenity they brought led William to photograph them, capturing their grace and beauty. Maria, who experiences the world from her wheelchair, found joy and participation in this shared passion through William’s lens.
